Large boats and barges up and down the river. You can go there from Sanford without issue. There are the occasional floating water hazards but we have been boating on the St Johns for 20 or so years and have never hit anything. There are sandy areas along the way to Blue Springs to pull up on, but I dont think Blue Springs really has much of an area like this. Of course I havent been that far south in a while. We usually boat from Deland and go south to Lake Beresford then to Swamphouse Grille, but that is about it. We tie up together in Lake Beresford a lot and just swim off the back of the boats. Or a sandy area just south of Beresford. We like Silver Glen to have a day of hanging out, grilling, etc etc. It is north, on the west side of Lake George, Astor. About an hour and 15 minutes north of Deland. You can anchor off out front or go on in. Typically in the summer there are about 50 or so boats in or around there.
Depending on the time of year, manatees are all over Blue Springs. Sometimes none at all.
