New Here- Boating in Central Florida, Glenn, Lake George, Disappearing Island, etc.

I just saw this site on Craigslist and thought I would join. There doesnt appear to be any introductions forum, so I will do it here. I am John, I am married with one daughter. Wife is Chris and daughter is Natasia. We boat frequently, trying to at least get out on the water once a week depending on our schedules. I have been boating since I was a little kid. We currently have a 21ft Tahoe bowrider, but are looking to buy a 25ft or so cabin boat so we can spend the night out on the water. We often go to the Glen off Lake George and Dissapearing Island. We also frequent many of the restaurants on the water. Well thats a breif intro.

Well, I am not new here, but I have never posted an intro. I am an avid skier from Lake County. I frequent the Harris chain, the St John's River and the Butler chain (before Memorial Day and after Labor Day on the Butler chain). I don't do salt water unless I am with a friend who has a boat in the Palm Bay area. I am out ALL the time. I have a 2003 Moomba Outback that I slalom ski, wake skate, trick ski and wake surf behind.
Hi,

I'm new to boating and leave in Sanford. Looking for others to go out boating and explore the central Florida waterways. Just bought a Sea Ray Sundancer 230.
Robert you should check out the Central Florida Boating Meetup Group. We Spend a lot of time on the St John's River!
John, saw your post and just joined myself....looking for places to go....just bought a Tahoe also. A mechanic told me to keep in out of salt water, that it's a "fresh water" ski boat, electrical connections etc. are not put together to be around salt water, anything you can add as an owner??? I have the 3.0L motor and someone else is telling me the boat is underpowered...what do you have/think?

Thanks...hope to do the glen when it warms or nice weather...will pick my boat up in about a week.
Well, first thing, welcome. This board doesn't get much use. Most of the people I hook up with are either on activeboating and Between the Buoys. It looks like this Central Florida Boating Meetup Group seems to be pretty active too. We have cheer/football finals right now, so we are out of the water for a bit.

As far as your Tahoe being a fresh water ski boat. Your boat is not a ski boat. It is more of a runabout bowrider. It is no different than a Bayliner or a Sea Ray(but not as luxurious). If maintained correctly they can all be used in salt water. Just make sure you flush it and wash it down well afterward. My father has a 215 Tahoe deck-boat and I have a Q7, and both spend probably half the time in the Inter-coastal. Tahoe is built by Tracker Marine.

As for the 3.0 being too small. That all depends on the size of your boat and your intentions. Mine is 21ft and has a 5.7. It is nice when towing skiers and wake-boarders. It is not necessary for cruising though. You cant go over 30mph anywhere on the St Johns, so a 60mph boat is kinda useless. My father's boat is bigger than mine and has a 4.3l. It is sufficient to tow around tubes, but struggles to tow wake-boards and skis. It also struggles at capacity of 11 people. Mine doesn't even know there are people in the boat.

I love the Tahoe because it was inexpensive, and gets the job done. It is reliable and has lots of storage. My buddy just bought a brand new caravelle 21ft bowrider and he has absolutely no storage. It seems to be a more refined boat, but my Tahoe is far more versatile. If I had it to do over again, I would certainly not rule out Tahoe as a choice.
Thanks for the input...I'm sure this boat will be great for what I want to do...sorta a sportscar for the water!

thaks, will be back with trip updates!

Rick
Thanks for everyone's participation here. The site is still very new to the Central FL area. Please help us spread the word by tell all your friends and family.
I have told everyone I know. I also follow you on Facebook. The problem is that it seems like all the websites are dead right now. I will start posting our trips up here though, maybe that will spark some interest.
That would be great.. thanks much! It takes time.. BoatBrevard.com was our first site and it started off just like these other ones, but now is very active with over 1M page views per year.
Hello John, Have you been to Crescent Lake yet?  We have a home we just build on the lake and love that it is connected to the St. John's River.  We also have a great waterside restaurant here and two boat ramps.  We also have a little marina right off the lake called Leonard's Landing as well.  You should come check it out sometime!  There is also another restaurant up in Dead Lake (at the far end of Crescent Lake).  Feel free to drop us a line if you need more info.  =)

Lake TOHO information request

I am on the West Coast and thought about bringing the boat over and checking out Lake Toho over the Memorial Day weekend. Can anyone give me some insight on what to expect.  Most of the information I can find is on the fishing but we are more into the raft ups and just enjoying the boating experience.  Any advice or warnings would be greatly appreciated. See More
