Most anytime you go out on the waters in Florida, you’ll see boaters everywhere. All types of people with different personalities cruise around these waters but there is one thing that many of them have in common. A lot of people have problems putting their boats in the water. This very well could be the hardest part of boating and if done incorrectly, it can cause a lot of damage to both your boat and your vehicle.
Before you head out to the water have a checklist and go over it twice. This ensures that you don’t forget to take care of something important. This checklist should include things such as having the plug in securely, the gas tank filled and all safety equipment should be onboard.
Tips for putting your boat in the water:
• It’s always a good idea to have a partner with you when you go boating to make things easier. However, if you do venture out alone, be sure and tie your boat to the dock before moving your vehicle out of the loading zone. Otherwise, you’re going to find yourself swimming for the boat as it slowly floats away.
• Before backing down the ramp, unplug the lights to prevent the fuse from blowing out. Always back slowly down the ramp until the trailer is underwater enough to easily unload the boat.
• It’s vital that you keep the exhaust pipes of the vehicle towing the boat out of the water or the engine will stall.
• The driver of the vehicle needs to put on the parking brake and release the winch while the other person lowers the boat motor, starts the engine and backs the boat off the trailer.
• The driver can now go park the vehicle and trailer and you’re ready to take off.
As long as you follow the steps listed above you should be able to launch your boat without too much difficulty. However, there are a few things that can make this task harder. For example, the size of the boat will make a huge difference in how hard it is to launch because the larger the boat, the harder it will be to handle. In some cases, the launching ramp can be too steep causing major problems, so look for ramps that are easy to access.
